* data quoted above include CO2 emissions from biomass burning which amount to 61 688 Mg.

PGNiG has been steadily reducing the volume of gas and particulate matter generated during fuel combustion (vehicles and machines) in resource deposits, sources of heat, production processes during extraction and processing of crude oil and natural gas in mines and the distribution network, as well as auxiliary processes (painting, welding, wood processing, galvanizing, etc.) in all branches, in particular in branches that provide support services.

PGNiG reduces its pollutant emissions by:

  • using gas as a low-carbon and clean-burning fuel,
  • monitoring fuel consumption,
  • lowering energy demand of the applied technologies,
  • upgrading or replacing sources of heat for auxiliary purposes.

The main air pollutants generated by the PGNiG Capital Group are CO2, SO2, NOx, CO, CH4 and particulate matter (from fuel combustion, silicon, carbon-graphite and other).

In 2014, total gas and particulate matter emissions for the PGNiG Capital Group topped 6.12 million Mg. This figure accounts for intended as well as fugitive emissions, excluding emissions from transport. Gas and particulate emissions from foreign operations are not included in the table.

In 2014, total water intake and water purchases in the PGNiG Capital Group reached nearly 5.5 million m3. Based on statistical data for 2011, the Group's share of total demand for water in the national economy is estimated at 0.05%.

Due to the implementation of a new data gathering system and the introduction of new metering units in the report, our water consumption and gas emissions are no longer compared with previous years' data.
